Algorand wins Gold OBIE Award

(Portland, Oregon March 28th, 2023) — Billups is extremely proud to announce that our client Algorand was  selected as a winner for the 81st Annual OBIE Awards. For the past eight decades, the prestigious OBIE Awards have been synonymous with creative excellence: spotlighting award-worthy campaigns, showcasing innovative technology, and signaling the future for the Out-of-Home industry.

This year’s OBIE Awards had a record-breaking 813 entries. Their shortlist included 131 finalists across 27 categories. Winners in the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers were revealed on Tuesday, March 28, during the 2023 OAAA/Geopath OOH Media Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

Our client, Algorand along with agency partner Invisible North was chosen for a Golden OBIE in the Buzzworthy Category for their Times Square Earth Day takeover. Algorand wanted to show the world that crypto can be climate-conscious and for people to know that innovation does not mean obscene energy consumption. One transaction on legacy chains uses the same amount of energy as 60 million transactions on Algorand.

On Earth Day 2022, Algorand took over Times Square for one hour to shed light on Algorand’s carbon-negative blockchain and the power of building green technology. The iconic intersection was flooded with Algorand's brand green for two minutes across 47 marquee billboards. Those screens then faded to black for 13 minutes to represent saving energy.

The outdoor campaign educated audiences on how much further that amount of power goes on Algorand’s blockchain then on traditional chains. The overall campaign reached a global audience of over 40 million, with social media seeing a 71% increase in brand mentions and a 15% increase in positive brand sentiment.
